Shocked and Saddened

I had planned on writing a post yesterday.  It would have been my first post of the new year.  (yes, I'm slow)  However, after watching the disgrace that was happening in Washington yesterday I could not bring myself to post anything.  I try hard to not write political posts here.  Yes, I have an opinion and I often share it on other blogs if the subject has been addressed but I do not wish to get into politics here.  It is important to me to have a blog where we can relax and get away from the stress that is usually caused by politics.

That said, I will put up a regular post in a few days hopefully.  At the moment I feel overwhelmed by everything happening in our country as I am sure many if not most of you are as well.  We have been through much turmoil in recent years and yesterday, in my mind, just pushes us over the edge.  I love our country and I want so badly to see it be what it once was many years ago.  I will not give up on us and on our country but I do realize the coming days may be difficult.

I just wanted to let you know I'm still here.  Sorry I have not posted sooner.  Take care everyone.  I know for many of us these days are not easy.  I'll be back.  💓

  1. Take care of yourself! You aren't obligated to comment on politics on your blog if you don't want to. I usually try to refrain as well.

We're going to be okay. We've faced tough times before. Chin up--a new day is dawning.

    1. Thanks Jennifer. I know you understand my feelings about what has been happening recently in Washington. I am thankful we have the victories in Georgia which will help to make a big difference eventually. I'll feel better when we get past the 20th hopefully without any other problems!

    1. I agree Lynda and Karen. Even though he only has twelve days left in office I feel he should be removed for the safety of everyone. There are a few senators that should be removed from office as well in my mind. It is past time for a change.

  3. I was shocked and sickened by what I saw happening. I could not concentrate on anything worrying about friends and family in the U.S. Also worrying about what this says for democracy.

    God bless.

    1. Yes Jackie, it is frightening to see our democracy at risk. I will feel better once we get past the 20th and the inauguration. I am hoping there will not be any problems on that day. I think this time there will be a much better police presence. Thank you for stopping by Jackie.

  4. The news absorbed me the last two days, like so many of us...shocking and appalling! I agree that he should be removed. He desperately needs to suffer consequences...and so do some republicans who have supported him in his lies and deceptions...and still do! I don't usually talk about politics on my blog, either. I am waiting for the 20th, as are so many of us. Praying for this country has been something I have been doing since before he got into office because he has been allowed to do what he pleases which is a dangerous thing for someone with his issues.

I do think the coming year will be a gradual change for the better all around. So many of us do so I hope we are right! :)

    1. Hi Rita, it is difficult to see this in our country isn't it? They are discussing impeachment or invoking the 25th but I doubt there is enough time left for that to happen. I know he only has eleven days left but look at all the damage that was caused in just one day!
Yes, I also hope the coming year will be better for everyone!

  6. I can't understand why there are still so many who seem to support Trump and agree with his views and actions.

    1. Tasker, I can't understand that either and it has divided our country worse than anything ever before in my lifetime. It is like he has some unseen control over a percentage of the population. I sometimes wonder if he met the devil at the crossroads and sold his soul for a deal.

  7. As I live near DC and worked there for more than 30 years, this all happened on very familiar territory. Given the past four years of increasingly hateful rhetoric and enabling of those who are only interested in self-aggrandizement without any care for democratic principles, no one should be surprised at the events of January 6th. Sickened. Saddened. Horrified. Yes. But not surprised. Yet another day of infamy for the US. One could only weep.

    1. Mary this must have been especially difficult for you to see this knowing the area as well as you do. You are correct that no one should be surprised by this when looking at the past four years. What has happened in our country is shameful and I hope and pray this division can be healed. He has built up and energized a very dangerous group of people.

I apologize, I accidentally deleted your very kind comment. I was not watching what I was doing and must have hit the wrong key. I did read your comment and appreciate all you said and the time you took to leave it. Sorry! Thank you for your kindness!

  9. Speaking from the UK, if it's any consolation, I think the recent BLM protests in the US sent very positive shockwaves round the world which have really inspired people.

As the Quakers say, all the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of one candle.

    1. That is certainly a good thing if the BLM protests did help in other countries. They were not all handled properly here but I suppose any step forward is better than none. I love the Quaker statement you have quoted.

I will feel better once we are well past the inauguration of our new president. The groups that caused the problems at the capitol apparently have more plans for the 20th. At least this time the security should be much heavier.

    1. Welcome back to blogland! Yes, it was hard to watch the attack on the capitol. I fear for what we could see on the 20th as the same groups are making threats.
You take care too. It's good to see you back and I hope you are feeling better!

  11. I try to keep away from politics, too, but limits get reached, you know? Horrifying? Yes. Disgusting? Sure. Surprising? Not in the least. Two things have come to mind often over these past years: A headline from England, I believe, just after the election said "My God America, What Have You Done?!". Secondly let's just say Rex was right.

    1. It's been difficult to watch our country come to this. I know we have been leading up to it but I try to hope for the best. We have to find a way to turn things around.

  12. It may get worse...we will just have to wait and see. I am not shocked...I am not sad...people were upset and I don't blame them...but they went about it the wrong way...but so did Minneapolis and Portland all last summer. There are four square blocks in Minneapolis and a Police Station that was burned...did that horrify or sadden anyone...not so much. There is a double standard...and that upsets me :(

    1. I know we should have expected this or worse but it does make me sad to see it come about. The events last summer were just as upsetting too as far as I am concerned. Yes, there are too many double standards these days. Many mistakes have been made. More than anything I hate to see the division in our country. I keep praying for a healing for all.
