We woke up this morning to a bit of an ice storm. I know the picture looks like snow but it is
actually ice. A good day to stay home
and off the roads which is just what we have done. I did venture outside late this afternoon to
roll our trash container out to the end of the driveway since tomorrow morning
is our pick-up day. It was a little
slippery going but I made it!
We had a nice coating of ice and sleet. |
Today is my oldest son’s birthday. Chris is 48 today and while he may think that is old, it really makes me feel old! Many of us know that 48 is actually quite young when you are in your 60’s and looking back! I sent him my love and birthday wishes this morning. The day he was born was the best day of my life and it changed my life for the better!
Chris at eight years old. |
It’s been quiet and slow around here since Christmas. I appreciate the quiet days after a holiday. It seems like there is always a lot of rushing around with cooking, cleaning and other preparations for Christmas and a break afterwards is welcome.
There’s not much to write about today but I wanted to stop in and say Hello and see how everyone is doing post-Christmas. I don’t think I am the only one that has this very wintery weather today from what I have been reading on other blogs. I made some homemade White Chili soup for dinner tonight and that just hit the spot for a cold, icy day. I send my best to everyone for these last days of 2020.
Not having a lot to write about can be a good thing!
ReplyDeleteMy eldest has a decade to go till their late 40s. It does make me think, though, when I realize they're the age I was when they were born.
You stopped moving up my blog list, for some reason. Someone said it happened to me, recently. It seems to happen to blogs on different lists randomly, from time to time!
Our children do help us to realize our own age. It is difficult to imagine the passage of years at times but mainly I am just proud of my boys.
DeleteBlogger does react strangely from time to time. I sometimes miss a blog post for just the reason you mentioned. In fact, I just checked and realized I missed your last post. Regardless, I am happy to see you here today Carruthers!
Belated Happy Birthday to your son!
ReplyDeleteI find these few days „between the years“ a very special time of year; the old year has not completely endet and the new one not yet begun. Sleeping in, spending the day without taking much note of the clock, eating when we‘re hungry, walking when we feel like it - it is good.
No snow and ice in our parts at the moment, but higher up in the Black Forest it‘s been snowing a lot, with a few roads closed.
I understand just what you are saying Meike and I love the way you describe this time as the time "between the years"! I should be packing away Christmas decorations but I'm not. I choose to enjoy the special feel of these days instead. As you say, it is good.
DeleteEnjoy your time off and I hope the weather does not interrupt your wonderful walks!
My Eldest was 40 this year, I remember being 40 - was it really 25 years ago.
ReplyDeleteTime flies fun or not it just goes faster and faster.
I remember when my son turned 40 and I think it bothered me more than when I turned 40! We mothers have a special view of time I think. And yes, time sure does fly!
DeleteAnother one whose eldest is in his late 40s...with the youngest in her late 30s and a couple of others in between. Does rather make one sit up and take notice of the passing years.
ReplyDeleteWe had a surprise half inch of snowfall late on Christmas Day (didn't stick to roads) after an inch and a half of rain Christmas Eve. Of course, NYD another inch of rain is supposed to drop. Pretty much have had an inch plus of rain every single week for ages. No drought here!
Happy (and better) New Years to you and Tom.
Hi Mary! Yes, the aging of our children is a wake up call to us! But it is also good to see life carry on through them.
DeleteA surprise snowfall on Christmas day can be nice I think. Goodness, it sounds like you have had a lot of rain! I hope the rain does not turn to ice!
Happy New Years to you and your loved ones as well! I hope you are well, warm and happy!
That's a lovely photo of your son Bonnie. And so good to hear you describe how he changed your life for the better. That's nice. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel. He's not crazy about me posting current pictures but I can get away with childhood ones! My sons did change my life for the better. I've had a lot of crazy situations in my life but my boys have been my one constant and have given me what I needed to get through the difficult times.
DeleteI hope your day has gone well Rachel. xx
Well said about your son. I have got to the point where It's hard to realize that my kids are well into middle age.
ReplyDeleteIt sure makes us realize our own age when we see our children in adulthood! But it is also nice to see them as adults.
DeleteMy son's in his fifties, and has just started to grey a little. Now that makes me feel old!
ReplyDeleteI hear you Boud! But I bet he also makes you proud everyday!
DeleteThat said, I vividly still remember the moment of his birth and how I fell in love with my perfect baby!
ReplyDeleteI love that you added this. Yes, I certainly understand and agree with you on that!
DeleteMy best to you, Bonnie also and a happy birthday t your son. It is jarring to realize our children have entered middle age. Now, even my baby has hit 40.
ReplyDeleteTread lightly till the thaw comes.
I suppose part of our aging is watching - and accepting - our children aging!
DeleteYes, I am treading lightly with the weather as it is now! We have another snow and ice storm coming New Year's Eve. so I will get some groceries before that one.
Take care and Happy New Years to you!
Neat, someone who shares the same birthday as me!! I have met people born the day before or the day after, but never on my day.
ReplyDeleteHope the ice storm did not cause much damage.
God bless.
Well Happy Birthday to you a day late! I hope you had an enjoyable day.
DeleteWe did okay with that storm but we have a bigger one coming in tomorrow night. It's that time of the year. Take care Jackie!
We had a lot of snow for Christmas, but smooth sailing since then. Both my daughters are past fifty, and the oldest just sent me a picture of an ornament she made in kindergarten. This year she discovered moths got to it. Actually, I think mice appropriated some of the nice wool felt for nests.
ReplyDeleteI love that she saved the ornament. I still have some ornaments on our tree that my two sons made. Things like that make a tree special. I hope the mice realized they had used some extra special felt!
DeleteI remember there was a time when being 40 sounded so old to me, but now that my daughters are in their 40s it sounds very young! I enjoy looking at your cold landscape but I do prefer being a bit warmer. Today in Nashville it was 64 and I did not need a jacket to go to the grocery store. I wish you a Happy New Year, with happiness, fun and good health.
ReplyDeleteHi Vagabonde, welcome to my blog! Yes, I remember when 40 was ancient too! It sure sounds young now. You are in Nashville? I love that city. My brother lived there for many years and we always enjoyed visiting him and seeing your beautiful city. Take care and have a very Happy New Year!
DeleteChris sure was a cutie. Bet he is a handsome 48 year old now. Happy Birthday Chris! Talk about feeling old...my girls are in their 50's now. So hard to believe. The years go by too fast. Looks awfully icy and cold there. We've got rain coming for the next two days.Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny! I think Chris is a good looking young man but of course I'm partial. The years sure do go by fast especially when we see our kids getting older. I hope your rain stays as rain and doesn't turn icy! We have a storm coming in tomorrow night with more snow and ice. Happy New Year to you and Poppy Henny!
DeleteWhat a cold but very beautiful day. Lucky that some of us can stay home.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Son.
cheers
It is that time of the year for us to have ice and snow. Yes, I am very grateful we can stay home and don't have to drive in it. We did enough of that when we were still working. I hope you and the gud dugs are doing good and had a nice Christmas. Happy New Year to you all! xx
DeleteI know the feeling. My son turned 46 this year. I will turn 70 in March. Where did the time go--LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe got snow again. Lots of drifting with the wind. It's 12 degrees. I am really looking forward to the new year. Have w onderful evening. :)
The time sure goes by quickly! I can't believe how quickly my grandchildren grew up. I hope you can stay in and stay warm in those cold temps! We have more snow and ice coming in New Year's Eve and day. Happy New Year Rita!
DeleteI hope your son had a great Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe weather here in the UK has turned very cold, but as we aren't allowed to go anywhere it doesn't really make much difference. We are in full lockdown again, and I have to say the novelty is wearing off!
Happy New Year to you!
I know what you mean about the weather. If you can't go anywhere what does it matter? Actually we have a big winter storm moving in here tonight so it will give us something to watch at least. You have a safe and Happy New Year Joe!
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful.New Year.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like treacherous weather. We are supposed to be getting some today, and I do think there is a thin coating of ice on things, but I could severing and it is only damp.
Your son has such a pleasant face.
Happy New Year Rose! That ice storm was just a hint to what we have now - lots of snow and ice for the new year. It's pretty and we don't have to go out so we'll just enjoy it. I hope your new year starts out great!
DeleteHappy Birthday to your son! Our oldest daughter will be 49 this year. Makes me feel a bit old! Happy BIRTH day to you Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and warm...I hate warmer temps because it will be icy...take care!
Thanks for the Birth day wishes! Only us Moms think of those. ; ) We had a big winter storm move in on New Year's Eve. That's okay, where are we going to go anyway!
DeleteYou and Far Guy take care and stay warm!
My Christmas and New Year period was spent, by choice, very quietly...just me and my two best mates, my furry rascals.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you and Tom and your family for 2021, Bonnie...may only good things come your way. Take good care. :)
Thank you Lee for your good wishes. I hope you and your furry mates enjoyed the holidays. Cats are the best company in my opinion. Happy New Year Lee! Stay healthy and safe.
