Christmas is
finding its way here even though I am slow at getting started on my holiday
preparations. It seems like each year
there is a moment when I look at the calendar and feel a bit of a shock
realizing just how soon Christmas will be upon us. I know all too well how quickly even three
weeks can speed by!
Today was
Santa Bus Day for our neighborhood. Our
small town has a wonderful tradition of having Santa Claus travel each street
in town to visit with the children.
Santa travels in a Christmas decorated bus and is led by a police car
with the siren occasionally going to let the children know that he is almost to
their house. He gives the children small
treats and they get their picture taken with him. Usually, the kids go on the bus to see Santa
but this year they have had to change that due to covid. Santa steps off the bus and visits with the
children. I guess I am a child at heart
because even though it has been many years since we’ve had little ones here, I
still love to watch the Santa Bus come.
Actually, our two cats get excited about all the activity surrounding
the bus coming and always run to a window to watch!

Christmas came early for my husband Tom yesterday. He has badly needed a new recliner as his old one was not working properly and was even potentially unsafe for him since he has had balance and walking problems. Good recliners are fairly expensive and a new one was not in our budget just yet. When I mentioned it to Chris (our son) and his wife Kristi they suggested that we all go in together to get him a chair for Christmas. They are both so sweet! We luckily found a great sale on one the Monday after Thanksgiving and it was delivered yesterday. Tom loves it and I feel better that this one is not going to pose a tripping risk for him as the old one did.
We managed to get our Christmas tree up a few days ago but I still have to decorate it. I hope to work on that this afternoon and evening. Since we have cats, they always manage to find fun ways to enjoy the tree! I didn’t get a picture of them in the tree this year yet but here are a few from previous years.
That looks like quite the chair! Drink holders and everything! It's nice when families work together. Your story made me happy.
ReplyDeleteIt all worked out well because the kids didn't know what to get him that he could use since he's had some health problems recently. Since we went in together it was affordable for all of us. Thanks for stopping by Debby!
DeleteThat sounds like fun a Santa Bus...I would get excited about that too! Yeah for a new recliner!! A gift he can enjoy everyday:) Be sure to stop by my blog on Monday:)
ReplyDeleteI never miss your blog but now you've got my curiosity up!
DeleteSounds like a great Santa bus even if the kids can't go inside this year. Love his new chair! Have a super week. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Rita! I enjoy just watching the Santa Bus when it comes each year. You have a great week too!
DeleteThat is one snazzy chair, and a great Christmas present!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the cats watching the Santa Bus, and the whole idea of this bus.
When I was still living at home and we had cats, our tree was usually a small one on top of a side table, so not all that interesting for our cats. But they LOVED the wrapping paper on Christmas Eve - they would dive into the various papers strewn about on the floor, and play with them.
Oh yes, cats do love to play in the gift wrap and boxes when gifts are opened up! Our cats are spoiled and much like little children when it comes to special occasions.
DeleteHow good that you were able to get the chair quickly.
ReplyDeleteMy cat is such a wimp she wouldn't even attempt to climb any sort of tree!
Yes, finding the chair when we did meant that we could get a great after Thanksgiving sale price! Your cat always sounds sweet to me. I bet she enjoys some of the Christmas decorations. Have a great day Sue!
DeleteHere Santa visit's the children on top of an old fire engine, with loads of lights, he waves and people walking with him dressed as elves gives the local children sweets. We are able to donate coins into their buckets which again the children love. All profits go to local children charities.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds wonderful! I'm sure the kids really enjoy getting to see the fire engine and Santa! I love hearing how different towns celebrate the holidays!
DeleteNow you have me thinking whether our Santa, who rides on a fire engine, will be around our neighborhood this year. It is always a fun thing to watch.
ReplyDeleteYour husband looks very comfortable in his new chair.
I love to see cats in Christmas trees. What funny creatures they are.
There was some discussion about the Santa Bus this year due to the pandemic but it was decided if the kids did not enter the bus they could do it safely. I agree with you, it is so fun to watch Santa come by!
DeleteI hope you are having a wonderful week!
Same here - tree up but as yet undecorated!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it hard to get everything done this time of the year! I got the tree partially decorated yesterday but I'm still not done. Have a good week!
DeleteWeird, isn't it? I really like Christmas and the decorations that go with it but find getting everything set up really hard work!
DeleteOh, the good old days of trees and cats. When he had access to a Christmas tree, Toby ALWAYS took an ornament to play with.
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh because I so understand that! I'm sure the cats think the tree is simply a different way of displaying toys for them!
DeleteThat chair looks great and a great deal like the one we got for Harvey last year.
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough our cat never really bothered with our Christmas tree. Though she did like to lie under it.
God bless.
Tom loves his new chair and yes, it really pays to watch for the sales doesn't it!
DeleteOur cats enjoy taking a nap under the tree too. They love everything about it but they really don't cause any damage. Take care Jackie!
When our cats came out of their room I thought the tree would be destroyed but they never touched it but would curl up near it.
ReplyDeleteMost cats love Christmas trees even if they don't climb them. Our cats will bat at the ornaments but they don't break them. (so far!)
DeleteThat looks like a solid, comfortable, great new chair. And I reckon Tom will feel very comfortable in it.
ReplyDeleteLove the cat in the tree photos, too. :)
Take good care...don't over-do things. :)
Hi Lee! The chair was a gift we knew he would use and he does love it. Cats and Christmas are always fun but then you know that! You don't have to have a tree to get them excited, ours love the gift wrap and decorations.
DeleteI hope you are well Lee!
I am glad you were able to find a good recliner for Tom. Love the Santa bus. That is such a great idea. My cars did that with the tree when young. But not after they were older.
ReplyDeleteOur cats are six and still get excited about Christmas. They have not climbed the tree as much this year but they did when we first put it up.
DeleteI hope you and your husband are well and enjoying the season!
The recliner looks like it is the perfect Christmas gift for Tom. One that keeps on giving--comfort! What we could all use more of that these days. Hope you, too, find some comfort in the days up to Christmas. Take care, Bonnie. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! The chair was the one gift we knew he would use this year. Thank you for your kind thoughts. I hope you are enjoying the season and staying healthy.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of the cats in the tree Bonnie. Glad to hear your news and the chair looks great and comfy and yet sturdy. xx
ReplyDeleteOur cats are like little children when it is Christmas and they in turn bring joy to us. Tom's chair was a much needed replacement as his previous chair was very old and losing it's structural strength. It is nice to see you stop by Rachel. xx
DeleteTom looks comfortable in his new chair but his maid should bring him a sandwich or better still a hot dog. And while she's there a nice foot massage would be lovely.
ReplyDeleteI could use such a maid myself and while you are at it I would like a cook also!
DeleteHow about a masseur too Bonnie?
DeleteOh goodness, I remember what cats and Christmas trees are like!
ReplyDeleteIt is a fun combination!
DeleteHello and greetings from a newbie. Got your name from Neil ( mr Pudding) and I’m doing a little bit of exploring .
ReplyDeleteHi and Welcome! It's nice to see you here. Blog exploring can be a wonderful expedition. I've seen you on several of the blogs I frequent and it's always nice to hear a new voice. I've only had a blog since last January but I've enjoyed following many since I retired six years ago. Enjoy your exploring and know you are welcome here anytime.
DeleteMerry Christmas to you and Tom. Glad Tom was able to get his new recliner early and it looks like it is a keeper. Hope the tree survives Zeus and Sophie. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHi Mr. Shife and Merry Christmas to you and your family! I do hope you are feeling better. Tom is definitely enjoying the recliner. Our tree is still standing but we do have it attached to a wide, heavy board to keep it that way. We have experience with cats and trees! ; )
DeleteLove the chair coming early ! Nice place to enjoy Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHe's loving it!
DeleteIn my town, Santa rides around on a fire truck. It always sounds like the town is burning down when he's going everywhere, lol. The recliner looks comfy. And I have to laugh at the cats. Hopefully your tree survives! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon! I bet the children love seeing Santa on the fire truck! I love how towns do things like that.
DeleteI hope you and your family are well and enjoying the holidays. Have a wonderful Christmas!
What a delightful tradition!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo much nicer than standing in line, in a mall!!!
Also wonderful, about the recliner for your husband. I have had a medical recliner for years, and it is wonnnnderful. I'm sure he will enjoy it.
Greetings from the "North Pole"!
