It Comes in Threes

That’s what they say about trouble.  In my case it’s more like inconveniences and not really trouble.  It all started about a week ago when our water was shut off.  There was a tag left on the door stating that it was cut off for non-payment.  No way I thought, as I always pay our bills on time.  Then I read the tag a little closer.  It was not my address and not my name!  The water cut off order was for a different home owner at a different address.  Now I understand mistakes happen, but to not even match the name and address was a bit much.  Our house number is large and prominent on the front porch.  The person that did this was either randomly cutting off water or couldn’t read.  I immediately called our small-town water department and explained the situation.  The lady I spoke with was very understanding and promised it would be corrected as soon as possible.  She did seem more than slightly aggravated with the man that did it and I sensed this was not his first mistake.  Our water was cut back on in less than an hour so no harm was done.

The second of the three was a few days later when I received our charge card bill.  We just use it for online purchases and I usually pay it off every month.  As I was checking over the bill I found one $40 payment made to Apple.  We do not use Apple products at all so I knew that charge was not made by us.  I called the charge card company and explained the situation.  They said it was a fraud charge and canceled that card number so it would not happen again.  The $40 was refunded to our account and they sent us new cards with a new number.  So, thanks to our card company no harm was done.  However, that card was listed with multiple companies for automatic payments.  You know, companies like Netflix, AAA Auto, and things like that.  I spent one afternoon changing the card number with a whole list of companies online.  Not a terrible thing, but an inconvenience.

The third of the three was just a couple of days ago when suddenly my main email account stopped sending and receiving email.  I have a gmail account associated with Blogger but my main account is what I use with all our bills and anyone we do business with in addition to family.  This has been really aggravating as I still have not been able to completely get it corrected.  I updated the account with the service provider and finally got it working on their website mail program and on my phone.  I can send and receive mail now.  The problem I’m having is that I can not get it to work with the Outlook email program.  Outlook is the program I have always preferred to use for email.  I’ve spent two days on it and I’m so frustrated I’m just going to leave it alone for now and use the web mail.  Hopefully I will eventually figure it out.  I know I must sound like I’m complaining, but overall I am grateful to only have these types of inconveniences and nothing really serious.

I do have one piece of good news.  Tom and I have appointments to get our first Covid vaccines this Wednesday.  I had us signed up on three different vaccine lists and just this evening I received an email offering us an appointment this week.  I was able to schedule it online tonight.  This is what they are calling a “mass vaccination event” so there is no telling how many people will be there or how long we will have to wait.  Whatever the situation, I am so glad we will finally be able to get the first shots.

I hope everyone is well and happy.  I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since I posted.  I’ve got to do better than this!  I’ve just had nothing to write about.  I’m going to work on that.  Take care everyone – Spring is coming!

  1. Phew! Good job you managed to sort out all three problems relatively fast, but so annoying (and worrying, the credit card fraud thing)!
Great to know you'll be having your first jabs soon. Hardly anyone I know around here have had theirs yet, it is really frustrating for those who are at risk (not me).
    Yes, spring is coming!

    1. Problems like this I try to correct as soon as I find them because I know they could quickly get out of hand. The credit card fraud was frightening. We are very cautious with our cards so I think someone online must have gotten the number? Who knows, but it does concern me.

I hope you will soon have more vaccines available especially for those at risk. We were beginning to think it would be months more for us but they have just started a big push in our area to get more vaccinated sooner.

Enjoy your walks, especially with the warmer weather coming soon!

  2. Would have been a lot harder to sort those things over here as getting through on the phone to many companies takes an age.
It's good you are having your first vaccinations soon

    1. Many companies here also take ages to get hold of over the phone. I was lucky in getting through to the credit card company. We are grateful that they have started a new push to get the vaccines out in our area as they were previously very slow about it. I hope you are having a good day Sue!

  3. I always swear things happen in 30s for me and I'm not even joking! Glad your three things weren't serious things. Your babies Zeus and Sophie are gorgeous. Congrats on getting the appointment for your vaccines!

    1. Oh my goodness, I'd have trouble taking problems in 30s! That's enough to really test your patience. I hope you don't have anything like that for a long time, preferably never again!

  4. I love the photo of Zeus and Sophie.

It is good it was no worse with the credit card. I hate that you cannot get your email to work with outlook...maybe there was an update somewhere that caused it and maybe it will be resolved soon.

    1. Zeus and Sophie are my babies and I know you understand how important our pets can be to us! The problem I'm having with Outlook is a real mystery. At least I can get my email on the web even though I don't like their online format. You take care Rose and keep sewing!

  5. All of these are such frustrating things to happen and good for you for taking them so well. The credit card experience is something that has happened to so many and we all must remain vigilant.

    1. The credit card fraud just serves to remind me to watch the account very closely. I usually do stay on top of it and that is how I caught it quickly. I hope you are well and all is going good for you!

  6. Ugh. Such annoyances can really pull you down at times and credit card scams are the worst. We've recently been getting cell phone bills with our address but someone else's name. Three times in three weeks I've returned the mail, crossing out the code line with a black marker (if you don't the automatic mail system keeps sending them back to you) and written Return to Sender in large black letters on the envelopes. Hoping this gets sorted or I'm going to have to get copies of my credit reports to make sure someone isn't using our address for fraud. Beyond annoying.

Hope you can sort out the email issue. And congrats on you and Tom getting your first jabs. Got one in mid-Feb with my second one due mid-March. Lucked out filling in for a cancellation during bad weather. Only had one hour notice, but made it in time.

    1. Your cell phone bill problem is frightening because we know there are so many more scams out there these days. I hope you get it worked out soon. Have you been able to talk to the company about it?

I'm glad to hear you've had your first jab. It is hard to get an appointment isn't it. Take care Mary!

  7. The most troubling thing there would have been the mental stress of the credit card being used by somebody else. Very frightening indeed. In the UK, water companies cannot by law turn off a domestic water supply so that one I would have been spared. As for the eamil problem, as I do not understand the problem it is not possible for me to offer any help. If email is working on one of my devices it also appears to have always worked on my other devises once signed in, or even on devices at another location owned by a third party as soon as my id and password have been entered, so your problem is a complete mystery. I am pleased to see that Sophie and Zeus look relaxed at least. xx

    1. Yes, it is disturbing to me that someone was able to get my card number as I am very careful with it. All I can guess is that someone online got it through an online purchase maybe. It is a reminder to always check our bills carefully.

My email problem is somehow related to the Outlook program. I may have to uninstall and reinstall it but if I do that I want to first download a lot of mail on it that I'm saving. These types of issues can be such a headache!

Sophie and Zeus are usually relaxed unless they are running and playing which they still do a lot. I hope you are having a good day Rachel!

  8. Water companies! I've had my water turned off in mistake for next door even though I told the man he was turning off the wrong one. Three close together in the ground, he insisted he was right. I called the company who found him round the corner eating lunch. He showed up in a hurry and I stood over him directing. Then explained in short words where all the shutoffs were. He was so flustered he couldn't wait to leave. Good thing I was home. I feel your pain.

And having to change cards is a big nuisance, not even your doing.

I wish they would leave techie things alone instead of constantly trying to "improve" them. Our lives would be better!

    1. It sounds like you had almost the same water problem as I did. It also sounds like you knew more about it than the man sent to turn it off!

I agree about the constant "improvements" in all things techie. They just make it harder for the rest of us!

I hope you are well Boud. Enjoy that magic you work with yarn!

  11. How irritating and inconvenient especially having the water cut off! I've heard that cats are great stress relievers so stroking Zeus and Sophie should help you to relax Bonnie. Good luck with your jabs on Wednesday. :)

  12. I used to use Outlook also, I cannot anymore it didn't send mail at all. So I just go to the Internet Providers site and get my web mail...but I do miss Outlook. Of course on the new computer I have no choice. I understand about frustrating things that happen and it takes time to fix everything. Hope this week is better and yeah for getting vaccinations!

    1. I also really like Outlook but not these problems! It does seem like there are days when everything needs fixing, doesn't it! I was beginning to think it would be a few more months before we could get our vaccinations as Missouri has been at the bottom of the list for not getting them out. Apparently there has been a push to finally get them out faster and that is a blessing for many! I hope your week has started out good Connie!

  13. No doubt the water company will be sending you a nice big bunch of flowers to say "sorry" for the inconvenience that one of their people caused you. Good to hear that you and Tom will be getting your first vaccinations this week.

  14. It is so hard to believe those two cats are not identical twins!
I once had water turned off for failure to let the meter reader in. The city only read meters (which were indoors) during the week, and I worked. I offered Saturdays, but they didn't work on Saturdays. I came home to no water at six at night and called the mayor. The water was back on at seven and they read my meter the following Saturday, then installed an outdoor meter. Oh, yes, I had faithfully and accurately read my meter every month and reported to the city. There was no overage or underage on my account. And, they turn the water on and off at the street, with a special wrench my brother had one of. I told them I'd solve the problem myself if it ever happened again.

    1. Our cats are litter mates and could possibly be twins but we have no way of knowing for sure. We adopted them from a shelter when they were young. There are subtle differences in them. They sure do love each other since they have always been together.

Joanne I love the way you handle things! You sure took care of that water meter problem!

  15. Those all sound very frustrating! I hope this is a better week ahead. Just getting the vaccinations would be wonderful! I hope all goes well with that and you both get them and don't have to spend forever waiting in line. I hope you have a non-frustrating week! :)

    1. Thanks Rita! We all have those kind of issues from time to time and it does seem like problems come in threes! I will be happy for a problem free week though.

I am so thankful that we are finally going to get our vaccinations. This is a major "vaccination event" so there is no telling what kind of a line might be there.

I hope you are feeling better Rita, take care!

  16. Glad that you got all your problems straightened out and so quickly.

No vaccinations here as of yet, but since my test came back negative before surgery I am feeling pretty safe. I will still be careful when out and about.

    God bless.

  17. Your "threes" sounds like a typical week for me. LOL Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but those kinds of things happen a lot here. Glad to hear you are getting vaccinated. NJ's handling of it is a MESS. There are still many seniors (and I'm talking 80 yrs old and up) who haven't gotten it yet. Love the cats.

    1. Those are the frustrating kinds of things that we all deal with these days, aren't they! I think it was a mistake to have the individual states handle the vaccinations. Our state has been very slow about getting anything done. Finally we have started getting more vaccines delivered. I hope you are able to get yours soon. Take care Sharon!

  19. Dear Bonnie,

We can fully sympathise with all of this. Life sometimes feels as if it is completely made up from tiny bureaucratic irritations which somehow can take up inordinate amounts of time to correct. It is just so exhausting some times. Whatever, we can definitely say that although we experience these frustrations in the UK, they fade into insignificance against the bureaucratic nightmares of Hungary.

And, at least you were able to resolve the issues over the telephone or online. In Budapest, nothing is resolved unless one can appear in person armed with every piece of paper imaginable and certainly resembling a portion of an Amazonian rainforest.

Still, it is all great news about the vaccine. Onwards and upwards and, of course, Shakespeare summed it up perfectly...."When sorrows come, they come not single spies
But in battalions". Hamlet, 1602....nothing changes!
