Like many other areas, we have headed into the deep freeze for the next week! Our high today was 15 Fahrenheit and that is about the warmest we will be for at least a week. We’ve also had snow today and expect more over the next several days. It is February after all and such weather is expected, so we will just hunker down at home. I’ll make some homemade soup and may even start a new jigsaw puzzle.
I had my first appointment with my new doctor this past week. I like him and he seems to be a good doctor. There’s just one thing, he appears to be younger than my kids! I know, as we get older that happens but it just seems so, so weird! Is it just me or does anyone else feel that way?
Last week my granddaughter, Annika had a birthday. She turned 25. How does that happen so fast? We were supposed to celebrate with her at my son’s house Saturday night but they rescheduled due to the snow. Maybe next weekend.
I hope everyone is well, happy and staying warm!
For some reason, this year the Superbowl is made into a big thing over here - hardly anyone used to even know about it in this country. I am not a fan of watching sports on TV, but I can understand that it can be a great event for many :-)
ReplyDeleteWe‘re in for a very cold week and snow from tomorrow onwards... good job I can work from home and don‘t need to stand around at the station, waiting for notoriously late trains!
I'm surprised the Super Bowl is even mentioned in your country. I think because of covid times the news everywhere is looking for anything positive to discuss. I have never been a sports fan with the exception of our local team. Tom loves it all.
DeleteI'm glad you can work from home with all the cold and snowy weather. I imagine it would be miserable to have to wait on a train outside! I hope you can still manage to bundle up for a few short walks though. I know that is important to you!
Yes Superbowl does seem to have grown over here. I think it's good for people to have something cheerful and positive to take their mind off things. It's funny my youngest daughter is 25 and came back from a doctors appointment last week telling me the new doctor looked like "a child" I did laugh.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it is good to have anything to take your mind off things at the moment. That is funny your daughter said that about her new doctor! I'm telling myself that the young ones may know some new and better ways of approaching things. I hope I'm right!
DeleteTalk of football reminds me of a Minnesota Vikings game I attended back in the early 70s--before there was an enclosed stadium. Sitting in open stands when it was below zero (F) with the wind blowing around and under you was not for the fainthearted. Bundled in snowmobile suits (if you were lucky--down coats, if not), layers of long johns, sweaters and at least two pairs of thick socks in heavy boots. Brrr! Makes me cold just remembering. Not to mention you could hardly move in all that clothing. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You had to be tough to withstand that! I'm not sure I could do that. ; )
DeleteHello Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteWell, we can definitely see the delights of hunkering down to read a good book as the temperature plunges. No excuse needed or given for whiling away endless hours lost in one's own imagination.
However, sport whether in a stadium, a gym, or on television is definitely not our idea of fun. Buttering the bread is the closest we come to any form of organised exercise and the thought of entering a gym brings us out in a cold sweat [rather than a warm one if we could be enticed to enter]. We have no knowledge of 'Super Bowls' but imagine that we would be advised not to go there.
No, a brisk walk around the apartment will do. Sunday is a day of rest.
Hello, I do understand what you are saying about sports as I am not really a sports fan either. I do keep up with our local team on TV because my husband, Tom, is a big fan.
DeleteI love the sound of hunkering down with a book and I will be doing that at some point today myself. You two take care!
Okay, just so you know, it's minus 41 C here this morning . And for some information you don't really need minus 41 C and minus 41 F are exactly the same temperatures.
ReplyDeleteRed, you have taught me something new. I did not know that. I imagine what is cold weather for us here in Missouri would be nothing for your part of the world or even for the northern states here. I hope you and the Micro Manager stay warm and cozy inside!
DeleteGlad your new Doc seems okay but young! I think some of them are the same age as my grands. Stay warm, enjoy the game...we don't watch football so it is just another quiet Sunday for us...the nachos sound delightful!
ReplyDeleteYes, the doctors are getting younger and younger these days. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with me getting older, I'm sure!
DeleteYou two stay warm! I know you are much colder than us and I just read about your heat going out! I hope you get a new furnace quickly! Stay warm and safe!
You sound like you are taking it all in your stride Bonnie and will enjoy whatever it is you do this week. I like the sound of Tom making the nachos and the fun and smiles you will have with watching that football game. xx
ReplyDeleteWe are used to the weather and I actually enjoy the different seasons. It gives us some natural variety in life. I will enjoy the game even though I am not a big sports person. If the Chiefs should win again there will be fireworks all around us and that can be fun. Take care and stay warm Rachel! xx
DeleteMy new doctor is the same age as my oldest daughter. We've had a couple of disagreements.
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to think there is a learning curve for both patient and doctor when there is such an age difference. If you have any helpful suggestions I'm open to them.
DeleteI hope our temperatures go up as well as yours. Being in the deep freeze is not fun at all.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
No it's not fun and I'm sure your temperatures are much worse than ours! You take care and stay warm!
DeleteGlad you like your new doctor. Yes, they are getting younger and younger--LOL!
ReplyDeleteNot into sports at all, but it must be weird to see cutout fans in the stands.
Our high for the net week is supposed to be -1 degree. Arctic blast for sure. -17 at the moment. Stay warm! :)
Brrr, you always have much colder weather where you live! We are expecting some below 0 Temps but nothing like yours! Stay warm Rita!
DeleteI'm glad you like your doctor (age not withstanding). I'm still looking for one that I like. My doctor retired some years ago, and I just haven't liked one since.
ReplyDeleteCan't say we're a sports family, so Super Bowl doesn't mean much in this house. Usually I'll check out the half time show, but I didn't even bother this year. Actually I kind of forgot about it.
It's hard to change doctors and I'm going to stay with this one at least for now.
DeleteTom is the big sports fan here but I do support the local team. They lost last night but there's always next year. I usually like the half time show but it wasn't that good this year, at least in my opinion.
Sorry about the Super Bowl. I hope Tom was able to find comfort in his nachos. Take care and stay warm.
ReplyDeleteHey, no biggie, they won it last year and will have another chance next year. Tom did bury his sorrow in his nachos though! Thanks Mr. Shife!
DeleteYou can still gpo through life in England without ever hearing about American football. You cannot say the same of the English football league (soccer).
ReplyDeleteSoccer has gotten much more popular here. Both of my grandchildren played it when young and we now have professional soccer teams.
DeleteOh look at that weather forecast!! You make me ashamed for posting our forecast. :) At least we stay above freezing, most of the time. My biggest worry here is a tree falling on the house. Right now all the tall willow oaks in the front yard are standing in puddles of water. Now they've added another day of rain to our forecast...a litle sun next Wednesday and rain all day Thursday. It's getting scary!
ReplyDeleteOh Henny, I know your cold temperatures have been just as hard on you as these are on us because in your area you're not at all used to below freezing weather! It is frightening if you could have any trees falling due to all that rain! You have so many beautiful trees all around your home but the thought of one falling on your house is terrible. I hope the rain lets up for you soon and you get some warmer weather. I sure hope you are feeling better too. You and Poppy take care!
DeleteI don't know how I missed this...I think I have just been so out of sync for several weeks now. We are having the deep freeze now...it started last week.
ReplyDeleteHi Rose! I just now found this myself. I hope we will both have warmer days soon!
