Done!

We voted this morning and I am happy to say it went smoothly and easily with no problems or delays.  Even though we live in a small town there are many different places to vote and based on where we live in town we are assigned a particular location.  This time it was one of the town's small churches.  Before we even got to the church we could see the line wrapping part of the way around the block.  We were expecting this and actually I am happy to see so many people getting out to vote.  There is usually a good turnout of voters for Presidential elections but this year I believe is a record breaking year throughout our country.

Line partially around the block

We parked and walked around the block to the end of the line.  Tom was concerned about how long we might be standing in line but it was moving much faster than we had expected.  We were fortunate to have beautiful weather with the sun shining brightly and before we knew it we had reached the church.  Once inside the whole process went quickly.  All Covid precautions were taken with the use of hand sanitizer, masks and the spacing of people voting.  We signed in, received our ballots and were done quickly despite the fact that we had quite a few local issues on the ballot in addition to the Presidential election.   Including the time we were in line, we completed the entire process in 30 minutes.

Beautiful blue skies and good weather

The line moved quickly

So now we have the hard part - the waiting.  It is entirely possible we won't know who won the Presidential election until tomorrow or later.  This is a record breaking year for the number of people voting and that can take time to tabulate.  But I really, really hope we at least have a good idea of who won tonight.  I am also hoping that regardless of who wins there will be no problems as a result of the election.  In most large cities, including Kansas City here, merchants are boarding up windows in anticipation of potential problems.  There have been some rumors of problems if Trump loses.  I hope those are rumors and nothing more.  Our country has gone through so many negative changes in the past four years, it is time for us to heal.

  1. Glad you and Tom had a pain-free voting experience. Things went smoothly went for me as well. I also hope we can turn the page after the decision has been made and start healing. I don't think we can handle another 4 years of divisive behavior.

    1. You are right. Something has to change no matter who wins. But the question is will it?

  2. People don't seem to want to cooperate in anyway. They don't get working together. A lot of good time is wasted by fighting.

    1. That is right Red. People used to work together and that is what it takes.

  3. The hard part is waiting. I'm sad that it's close. Shouldn't be.

    1. I am sad too. It should not be close. I don't like to think what has happened to our country for it to be like this.

  4. Glad everything went so well, and even the weather was great! I would like to be optimistic about the outcome, but I'm afraid I actually expect the aftermath not to pass quietly without any violence, as horrible as that sounds.
Hopefully, in your area, people will be sensible and reasonable.

    1. We do have our concerns about how it will go when we get the final results. Trump has already had lawsuits and will have more even though he has no real grounds for them. This is one of the most important elections we've had in years. We live in a small town on the edge of the large city of Kansas City. The people in our town are good people and we would not expect trouble here. It is the cities to watch out for.

  5. We've got a lot of news coverage about it here as well. It looks like it's going to go on for days.

    1. Yes, I think it will take some time for this one. Because of covid we had a record breaking number of mail in votes and each state has different laws for how those votes are handled. And because of the strong feelings everyone has we saw an equally record breaking number of people turn out to vote yesterday. It could be a week or more before all votes are counted. However, I'm waiting to see which candidate gets 270 electoral votes and we should see that sooner - I hope.

  6. Good that so many polls were open. Very glad I voted by mail (and was informed by email that it was received and counted). My county only had five polling stations open yesterday for a population of more than a 100k. Folks were still in line at 11 pm last night though the polls closed at 8 (meaning those people were already waiting in line before that time). Gather people had to wait 2-3+ hours throughout the day to vote. Hoping this won't be the death knell of democracy. But pretty depressed at the moment.

    1. That's too bad your county did not have more locations to vote. It just makes it hard for the people that vote on election day. I'm glad you were able to vote by mail. It is depressing to see how things are handled in some areas. All the more reason for all of us to get out and vote! It is sad to see so many negative changes in our country in the past few years. I keep hoping for positive changes and healing. You take care Mary.

  7. I had an easy time voting, too. I also realize many folks didn't and I wonder if it was so much Covid as election officials not having enough polling stations.

  8. You may be right about the number of polling stations being affected by covid. In our area we had more people volunteer to work the polls than ever before to the point there were several hundred they did not use. Younger people were stepping up to cover for retirees that were afraid to work due to covid. We do have greatly increasing covid counts but the younger people don't seem to be worried about it. I'm sure many areas did have a shortage of poll workers. I am glad to hear you had an easy time voting. We are watching those counts go up now and keeping positive thoughts!

  10. Voting is compulsory here in Australia...even if it wasn't I would always cast my vote. It is important to do so, I believe...it is our right to do so.

Best wishes to you and Tom, Bonnie. :)
