When I woke up this morning, I realized there was a small,
stuffed, toy mouse next to me. Not just
any mouse mind you but my cat Zeus’s favorite toy, affectionately known as Mousey. I’ve had a cold and sinus infection the past
week and have been coughing a lot in the night.
This was his offering to help me feel better, and it did as it put a
smile on my face and love in my heart.
Zeus and Mousey |
This little mouse has a bit of history. We adopted our cats Sophie and Zeus from
Wayside Waifs, an animal rescue center, four years ago this month. This toy came with them from the rescue
center and has always been a favorite.
Sophie and Zeus were four years old this past November and
are brother and sister. Tom and I have
always been cat people and when our last two cats passed, we had simply not
been able to adjust to life without cats.
Tom had a dream that we adopted two cats and one was named Zeus. He described this kitten to me and I could
not get it out of my mind. Finally, we
decided to go to the rescue center and look.
Sure enough we saw a couple of eight-week-old kittens that looked just
like the cat in his dream. Yes, the rest
is history. They are most definitely
part of our family. We have had many
cats and each one has a distinct personality.
These two are no different and each one is special in it’s own way.

“A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not.” – Ernest Hemingway
Oh, my goodness, Zeus is soooo handsome...and Sophie is a pretty girl. I love the story of how you came to have them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rose. They are well loved like your handsome Bubbie.
DeleteLovely cats, lovely story. Litter mates generally do so well together.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to see you here Joanne! I know you are lover of cats too and I always love to hear about your sweet Toby. Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteI am a cat person, too - ask O.K., whenever we are out walking in the village and meet a cat, I have to stop and talk to it, most of the time resulting in the cat coming up for a stroke, and sometimes walking with us for a bit.
ReplyDeleteUntil 7 years ago, I always lived with one or more cats. Then my dear old Pukky died, and the way I live now, with being away most weekends and generally out of the house all day, it would be most unfair to any pet. But eventually, I want to have another cat (or two) in my life again. Maybe I will have to wait until I retire, but it will happen!
I have enjoyed seeing photos of the cats you meet on your walks. I understand how a lifestyle with much time away from home is not good for a cat or a dog. We adopted these two cats after we retired and it has been perfect!
DeleteHello Bonnie. I have just come over from Rachel's blog where you mentioned you were starting a blog. Welcome to blogging! I have been blogging since 2008 and thought I wouldn't have enough to write about and I am still here! Your cats are lovely. I have an aggressive ginger boy cat called Gizmo. I am also a cat person and never owned a dog. Hope your cough gets better and that you are not woken up with a real mouse next time. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Simone and thank you for your kind welcome! Blogging since 2008 is a long time to blog, congratulations! I hope I can do as well as you have done. I just visited your blog and I love it. I really like the Baboushkas you made. I enjoy sewing and crafts too.
DeleteI love the name Gizmo for a cat! We once had a very outgoing ginger cat. I was happy to see the toy mouse in bed but not so much a real mouse! We did have that happen to us once. We had a cat bring us a live mouse in bed and you never saw a person get out of bed so fast as I did that night!
I'm not really a cat person but I can tolerate them if they tolerate me (no clawing, no biting). We had a male orange tabby when I was growing up, along with some dogs. My wife and I have had only dogs. One adult son has a dog, another adult son has a dog and a cat, and our adult daughter has a cat. I am especially thankful that the grandchildren are not attracted to pythons or iguanas or parrots.
ReplyDeleteI love dogs too and I have had a couple in the past but I am really more a cat person. I like most all animals except reptiles! When my grandson was younger he had pet snakes for a while and I would never go in his room while he had them. I love my grandson dearly but we had an understanding from the start about snakes.
DeleteLook at those beautiful faces! They look like they are smiling! As you may have gathered, I am a cat person also. I hope to be seeing more of yours :)
ReplyDeleteI did indeed see your comment on my very first post, and answered it there. Thank you for reading back at the beginning of my blog - sometimes I need to remember that not all readers have been with me since the start, and assume they have information they don't have. I've been thinking of a post along those lines :)
Hope you feel better soon. My husband and I picked up a cold from our little grandson over Christmas, but while I took it very lightly, he has been miserable with it, like you have. It's very tiring to be ill.
Yes, I do know you are a cat person too and I love all the cat pictures and comics you put on your blog. I especially love that you describe yourself as a "cat servant"! I totally understand that and I fit in that description as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found my comment on your original post. I love to read past posts on blogs as it helps me to get to know people better.
I am sorry to hear you and your husband have been sick as well. I was sick over Christmas and then my husband picked it up from me. I hope you both feel better fast! I'm over to read your comment on that first post!
I used to have a cat called Zeus too. Your cats have lovely faces. My Zeus was like my Thomas is now, a big softie and I loved him dearly too. I like your blog start, just being yourself. That's all you need to do xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel for stopping by. It seems like some male cats really are just big softies and full of love. I feel somewhat lost at starting a blog but I will learn I hope. As far as being myself, well that is about all I know to do.xx
DeleteBeautiful thick fur. I had two cats at one time. It was so funny the way the much smaller but more intelligent she used to tease the larger he.
ReplyDeleteYes, cats are very smart and very cunning too!
DeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Cats always make me feel better.
ReplyDeleteI also love cats but I have hesitated to home another one as the commitment can easily be twenty years long. Still, I am always stroking cats when I spot them in the street and like a nutcase I talk to them. Good on you and Tom for giving Zeus and Sophie a safe haven.
ReplyDeleteNo, you are not a nutcase to talk to them. I talk to our cats all the time and in their own way they talk back. They also come to understand quite a lot. Cats are very compassionate companions.
DeleteBonnie! I am so glad that you have a blog. I love it! Sophie and Zeus are two of the prettiest cats I've ever seen. Such pretty faces. I've just read your first post, and I can sure relate. Where do the years go? I've appreciated and enjoyed your many comments on my blog and will sure be following yours.
ReplyDeleteHi Henny! I am so happy to see you here! Thank you for stopping by and following. Yes I am a big cat lover and I always enjoy hearing about your sweet cats, dogs and other furry and feathered family members. The years do go by fast don't they? I've come to learn that good blog friends like you help the passing of the years to be a lot more enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteI love you Katties, they are beautiful !
ReplyDeleteSon and one of his Katties , Merida, speaks back to him. If he is out of the room to long she sits at the door and calls to him. They are not friends of the Square Ones so they stay close to his room.
parsnip
Merida and Oliver are very pretty cats and I'm sure they are happy with their own territory in your son's room. One of my cats will call to me if she does not see me and then come running when I call her name. Thank you for visiting my blog! Give my love to iWinston and Agatha as well as Merida and Oliver!
DeleteThat is so cool that your hubby had a dream about one of the cats beforehand. It was meant to be! :)
ReplyDeleteI think it was meant to be. They fit in so perfectly here with us!
