Happy Easter!

I hope everyone is having a nice day and maybe even enjoying some warmer Spring weather.  It’s been a quiet weekend here.  Yesterday was warm enough that I could get a little yard work done.  In our back yard we have a row of trees that is home to quite a few squirrels.  It suddenly looks like the squirrels decided to tear down their winter nests and there are sticks all over the yard.  Of course, it could have been all those high winds we have been having this Spring too.  Either way, I’ve got quite a few sticks and such to clean up before I can even mow.

Our redbud tree always has beautiful buds on Easter.

Does anyone have any special plans today?  I miss the Easters when I had young children or grandchildren here and we had egg hunts and family get togethers.  Now even my grandchildren are grown and everyone is off doing their own thing on Easter.  I was determined to still do something special even if it is just the two of us, so I planned a special dinner.  I bought a turkey breast so we could have roasted turkey without having a whole turkey for just two people.  I’m going to make home made stuffing to go with it and I even got some cranberry sauce.  I know, it sounds like Thanksgiving doesn’t it?  It is something we love and don’t have very often so it will be a treat.

All these buds should burst into flowers soon.

I want to thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers for my brother Charlie.  I truly believe positive thoughts do make a difference.  He has his six weeks of radiation set up now, beginning April 19.  He is looking at all of this as one big adventure!  I have such admiration for how he is handling everything and I believe his positive attitude is going to make a big difference for him.  He also just got his first covid vaccination and I am very happy about that!

Enjoy your day today!

  1. I'm glad he's getting the vax. He really needs the protection in his situation.

Hope you enjoy your Easter dinner, too. I love the pictures.

    1. I was thrilled when I heard he got his first shot! Our Easter dinner was not exactly traditional for Easter but we are not big fans of ham. I hope you continue to feel better each day!

  2. Your trees are beautiful! WE cannot grow Redbuds up here it is too cold. Happy Easter...we had roast beef and roasted carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy...not exactly a typical Easter Ham dinner with scalloped potatoes.
My best to your brother Charlie!

    1. We do get below 0 temps here in the winter and the redbud does okay, but I know you get much colder than that - you guys get crazy cold! Your Easter dinner sounds delicious. We are not crazy about ham so decided on the turkey. Take care Connie!

    1. Depending on your weather your redbuds could bloom later or earlier. There are a lot of wild redbuds here along the roads. I love them but the blooms don't last very long. My brother has been blogging much longer than me and is a very good photographer so you might enjoy his pictures.

  4. Redbud trees are so beautiful. And a whole row must be such a spring sight.

    1. I do love redbuds but unfortunately we don't have a whole row of them. (I wish we did!) I was probably unclear in what I said. We have a redbud in the front and a row of Osage Orange trees in the back.(hedge apple trees) The redbuds are beautiful when they bloom!

  5. We are the same as you with one kid in Chicago and one on the Canadian west coast. We do make a full meal. But Easter is a ham dinner.

  6. Your tree is beautiful Bonnie! I usually go to my Mum's for Easter dinner but haven't been this weekend or the previous year due to Covid-19 restrictions. I made a nice roast dinner and had a lemon roulade for dessert and had a few chocolate eggs and Reese peanut butter bunnies in a large bowl! I hope your brother continues to progress and I wish him well. x

    1. Your Easter dinner sounds wonderful and you can never go wrong with chocolate! I'm sorry you could not go to your Mum's but maybe as more people get the vaccine you will be able to see her. Thank you for your good wishes for my brother. Take care Simone! x

  7. I've enjoyed reading Charlie's blog. He has such a great attitude--about travel and life. Wishing him all the best as he navigates radiation--his plan for that period is really ingenious.

Our weather cooperated, sunny and 72, so we had Easter dinner on our deck with our DD, SiL and our 6 yr old GS (the one I've been virtual schooling with since August). Grandpa and SiL hid 36 eggs (plastic filled ones) around our backyard (acre), so GS had a great time finding them all--math skills were used :). Later, after he emptied the eggs, he went out back and hid them so Grandpa could "find" them. Did such a good job, GP couldn't find five of them. No doubt he'll be running over them with the lawn tractor in the near future. It was a lovely day.

Your Easter day sounds just wonderful and reminds me of the ones we had when my grandchildren were young. Children really make it fun don't they! I can just see your husband running over the eggs when he mows! Take care and enjoy your grandson because he will be grown before you know it!

  10. Easter is a time of hope, and that ties in so nicely with your brother‘s situation. All the best for him!
Your Easter meal may not be a standard in many households for this holiday, but it is YOUR tradition, and you love it - and that is what counts!
We made leg of lamb with four vegetables in the oven, cooked for about 5 hours in white wine. It turned out so tender you did not need a knife to get the meat off the bone.

  13. As you learned from my blog, we tried to go hiking in the snow dressed like it was summer. My kids are going to have me declared insane. Hope you and Tom enjoyed your dinner and thanks for the update about your brother.

  14. I also miss those Easter egg hunts with my children and then my grandchildren (who wanted me to have them even while they were in their teens). Now I have a new grandchild and we got to see a one year old run around the yard picking up eggs. I am blessed that I got one more time.

I am glad to read that your brother got his first Covid shot. That is one less worry for him and all those that love him.

I would much rather turkey than ham.

    1. I'm sure I don't need to tell you to enjoy every minute with that new grandchild because you know how quickly they grow up! It sounds like you had a wonderful Easter if you got to be with your grandchild and family! How wonderful that you've had your shots now so you can do these things.
