It’s That Time of the Year

Every year about this time I become more acutely aware of the change of seasons.  The days are colder and the nights are longer.  I like the changing of seasons because it keeps me in touch with that part of our world that continues on as it has all my life.  It reminds me that there is something bigger in life that moves forward despite us.

A Squirrel eating one of those hedge apples I mentioned in my last post.

Saturday was a nice day here with temperatures in the low 70’s, windy but warm.  I spent the day outside doing yard work and getting ready for the winter months.  We have a redbud tree in the front yard that badly needed trimming and I got that done and bagged.  It felt good to be outside in the fresh air especially knowing that we would not have many more days like this.

Saturday night we were able to spend a few hours with our oldest son, Chris, just visiting and enjoying the opportunity to be together for a bit.  We don’t get to see family very often and it is special to us when we do get together.

This past week has been busy with a lot of the basics of life.  I saw my eye doctor as my vision continues to challenge me.  I was given a prescription for new glasses and I got a new pair picked out and ordered.  I look forward to getting them as the pair I have been wearing has not been doing me as much good as they did at first.  This time I ordered the kind of glasses that get darker in the bright sunlight.  I’m supposed to wear sunglasses but I rarely do as they are such a pain when you wear glasses.  I don’t want to carry two pairs of glasses or try and put sunglasses over my regular glasses.  So, I will give these a try and see how they work out.

Winter was beginning to feel much closer on Sunday when instead of temperatures in the low 70’s our high was in the low 40’s and it was damp and cloudy.  I was glad I had done my outside work on Saturday as this was a day to stay in with the heat turned on.

When it gets cold Zeus always heads for the covers!

This new week will be busy with the usual variety of appointments, grocery shopping and such.  Also on Friday our younger son, Sean, is having outpatient surgery and we are taking him to the hospital for that.  He is not married so we help him out with things like that.

It has been fairly routine days around here.  Many bloggers I know write about their day to day activities but I’m not so sure there is much of interest in my days!  I hope everyone is well and having a nice week!

  1. Fairly Routine Days are much easier to cope with!

What a difference in temps between Saturday and Sunday.
Hope all goes well with your week

    1. I agree, routine days are much easier! Here in Missouri we often have sudden, big temperature changes so we are somewhat used to that. I hope you have a good week as well Sue!

  2. What is fairly routine for you might be unusual for others - I like to read about my blogging friends' day-to-day, ordinary lives; especially if they live in a different country (or, like in your case, on a different continent!), their "normal" can seem rather "exotic" to me :-)
So nice that you were able to do all the yard work on the beautiful day and then had a cold, grey, damp day to enjoy the comforts of your home indoors.
Hope all goes well with your son's surgery.

    1. I know what you mean about reading about friend's regular days, I enjoy that too. I need to get in the habit of taking more pictures as I go about my days.

It was good to get my outside work done before the cold moved in over the weekend. Thanks for your good wishes for my son. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  3. The changing of the seasons also means that we have some jobs to do to clean up after one season and get ready for the next season. I got my snow shovels out and used on yesterday!!!

    1. I saw on your blog that you have already had the need for those snow shovels! You did have a pretty snow though. I am hoping we won't need our snow shovel for a while yet, but you never know!

  4. Just something to consider with the transition glasses...if you are hoping to use them when driving, those lenses don't usually darken when inside a car. They might change a little, but they won't darken as they will when you are outside, so not a good replacement for sunglasses when driving.

Best of luck for your son's surgery and for all the other appointments this week.

    1. I read about them not working in the car due to the tinted windows. I really need sunglasses in the car too. I guess I will have to get a pair of sunglasses and maybe just leave them in the car. I hope I will like these glasses. I had transition lenses years ago when they were a new thing and didn't really like them then but my husband has some now that work much better. I guess they have improved them a lot through the years.

Thanks for your good wishes - I appreciate that! I hope you have a very good week as well!

  5. Zues is so pretty. I wish Dumperoo would gain a little weight. He is a Tabby like Zeus but not as big and pretty. Bet you will enjoy the new glasses. I've wished several times that I had gotten the lens that darken. I've had a heck of a time getting used to my glasses...up until a few months ago I only had reading glasses. Best of luck to your son.

    1. Dumperoo is a very handsome cat! I always love when you have pictures of all your sweet furry and feathered friends! I hope I like the new glasses. I'm always a bit nervous about new ones at first but recently my vision has gotten so bad that I really need an upgrade!

  6. We have a clock change coming up at the weekend. The clocks are put back an hour so that it is lighter by eight in the morning, but of course that means it gets darker at an earlier hour. You really notice the season then. It's dismal.

    1. You are sure correct there, changing the clocks really brings the feel of winter on. We do our clock change one week after yours, on November 1st. I would be okay if we didn't do daylight savings time at all and just stayed the same year round!

  7. We have moved from a bright, sunny Saturday to the grip of fall Sunday and today. I woke to rain today and it lasted until noon.

    1. Winter is catching up with us all I think. And just like Tasker said above, when the time changes it will even be worse!

  8. Ordinary days are a blessing.
Snowstorm happening right now. Another storm coming Thursday maybe. I think this is the third year in a row we've had snow in October, but more and colder this year so far. Things seem to be shifting.

    1. I think winter may hit us all a little harder this year. Maybe you can get some pictures of your snow for your post next Monday. You get some really big snows there! You and Annie stay warm and cozy!

    1. You are an excellent daily blogger! I still feel challenged to write something once a week! But maybe with time and practice... It also helps to have friends that are such well-seasoned bloggers!

  10. Lots of snow here and cold temperatures today (mind you it will get much colder yet).

My days seem to flow into each other and seem to be much the same. Nothing really exciting happens very often. I fill my blog with the same old, same old all the time.

    God bless.

    1. I understand what you say about the days flowing into each other. You have a lovely blog. I only started blogging last January so I feel like I am still learning but I have been following and reading blogs much longer.

Stay warm with all that snow! We don't usually get snow in October here in Missouri, although we have a few times. It has certainly gotten colder here the last few days though. You take care!

  11. You know, I read blogs that talk about almost the same thing every day, but I enjoy them so much. But feel like my life is so boring that I feel like you..like who would want to read this! But I love it when I come here and find a post. Always fun to catch up. I sure understand how spending time with your kids is special. I think that gets more so as we age.

I need to be working in my yard, and should have done it today but didn't. It was sooo nice here this day. I even sat on the porch and did some hand sewing for a little bit. I figure we don't have many days left that I can do that...I actually thought they were done in the past.

    1. I do know what you mean about enjoying what other people write about their everyday lives. I love to hear what others are doing and how they are dealing with everything these days.

We had a nice day here today too. Missouri weather is so weird. Yesterday it was in the 40's, today in the 80's and tomorrow back in the 40's! I think our good days are about over too! Take care Rose!

  12. I hope that Sean's outpatient surgery is just routine. By the way there are a thousands of available English chicks who would love to ensnare a Missouri dude. Does Sean wear a cowboy hat?
