A Simple Post

I’ve been busy all week but not with anything anyone wants to hear about in a post.  I’ve had doctor’s appointments and medical tests four out of five days this week.  Between Tom and myself I suppose the doctor’s office and hospital have become our August.  You do what you have to do.  Other than that, I have only gotten a few basic things done around the house.  I vacuumed yesterday – boy did it need it!  I’ve cooked every evening as usual, roasted veggies over rice last night and lasagna tonight.  I’m not the best cook but we don’t go hungry.

My Favorite Cup

I was drinking my coffee this morning and wondering what I could write about after a week like this.  I looked at my coffee cup and thought “Why not?”.  A post about my coffee cup.  It’s a special cup to me as every coffee cup I’ve ever had has been special.  As long as I can remember I have always attached myself to one particular cup for my morning coffee.  It starts my day every day.  I probably have not had all that many “morning coffee cups” over the years because when I find the right one, I stick with it as any loyal friend sticks with their best friend.  Eventually it gets broken and I’m at a coffee cup loss for a while until I find another “perfect cup”.  I often drink a cup of tea in the afternoon but that’s a different cup and it can be one of several as we have many.  It’s only the morning cup that is special.

Do you have a favorite cup?  I’ve known a few others that felt like I do.  Tom is the same way with his cup but he has a couple of favorites.  When you get up in the morning and reach for a cup of coffee or tea do you always reach for the same cup?  If it is not available are you just a little disappointed?  Am I crazy?  (I know, probably)

I just love this little guy hiding in the bottom corner!

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday.  After a stressful week I think I am going to finally start a jigsaw puzzle that has been waiting a long time for me.  Take care everyone.

  1. I’ve always had a fav cup.......I’m not a fan of the traditional shape like yours, preferring a very large cup shape or an American mug with a rounded lip

    1. I think I remember seeing your coffee bucket on your blog! I have one similar to it that I like to use as a soup mug.

  2. It sounds like you have had a hard week. I have two favorite cups...one from a Quilt Shop, but the name is worn off....and the other is a cartoon that says something like Sewing...I could have told you what it says a minute ago, but the minute I started to type it, it completely left my mind. I seldom drink anything hot other than at breakfast.

One thing I know, I prefer my coffee cups to have a white or light color inside. I like being able to see the color of the coffee instead of just looking into darkness.

    1. There are some really cute sewing and quilting mugs out there. I understand you prefering it to be light colored inside so you can better see your coffee, especially if you add milk or cream to it.

  3. I like your cat cup. I have several favorites. My most favorite is many years old and was my hubby's favorite. He died in 2016 and I adopted his cup as my own.

My current favorite coffee cup has been around for fifteen years.

    1. Believe me, I'm glad last week is done too! We both have more medical appointments coming up but at least not that many in one week. I sure understand your favorite cup being around for fifteen years! I'm the same way. The one I have now has been with me for over ten years.

  5. I've got to vacuum tomorrow! Wish you could see the floors here...thanks to Eli. I have two coffee cups that look exactly alike, so there is always a clean one in the cabinet. :) It's a large dark brown cup with a big handle. Just a plain old cup. I love you kitty cat cup.

    1. Eli is such a sweetie he is worth vacuuming for! We have two cats and they do contribute to the mess on the floor. It's good that you have two of your favorite cup so you always have one ready. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't have to be a fancy cup, just whatever I happen to get attached to. I'm really a creature of habit I suppose. You and Poppy take good care Henny!

  6. Cute cup! I used to have a favorite cup when I drank coffee...simple white small cup...it broke and a few years later I gave up drinking coffee:)

    1. I don't think I could give up my morning coffee but then you never know. I don't think it matters what a cup looks like. I guess it is more of what we get used to having every morning and it becomes a part of our morning routine.

  7. I love your cup! I have a favorite thermal cup--yes! :)

    1. Thermal cups are great! I hate it when my coffee gets cold. I think we get accustomed to certain cups out of habit. I hope you are doing well!

  8. Not unusual Bonnie. I sort of only stock "special" cups in my cupboard. No point in having any that you don't like when you live alone! I am more of a "type" of cup person that I like for different times of the day. For instance, breakfast has to be a tea cup for my tea, never a mug, whereas at any other time of the day I happily take my tea in a mug. All mugs and tea cups also have to have white insides, nothing else is acceptable to me. I don't drink coffee, or only very rarely in the evening, it would never be for breakfast.

    1. I understand how you like certain types of cups for certain times of the day. Someone else also mentioned they only want white on the inside of the cup or mug and that makes sense so you can better see what you are drinking.

I've found it interesting to read the comments because I think most of us do consider that first cup or mug of the day to be very important and personal.

  9. I like your jolly cat mug Bonnie! I use one of two cups for my coffee and tea and my husband and son have their own ones too. You now have me thinking that I really want to buy myself a beautiful new coffee mug! :)

    1. Thanks Simone, I am a big cat person. I guess most of us, like your family, do have a favorite cup or mug. I have mugs I've collected from trips or been gifted and I love them all and use them but for the morning cup I want my old favorite!

  10. Like the others here and like yourself, I have a favourite mug for that decisive first morning coffee, too. Actually, I have three, and they are on a rota. Two have foxes on them (my favourite animal) and one is with the logo of my favourite computer game (The Sims 2). Then there is a seasonal mug I only use in winter, with a pattern of snowflakes on it.
But when O.K. spends the weekend here, I make sure we have two identical mugs - just to show even in such small detail that we are a couple. It would probably be different if we lived together all the time, but things being as they are, those weekends together are special, and it reflects even in the choice of coffee mug. Crazy? Yes, please!

    1. Your mugs all sound very nice! I love foxes too, I bet those are cute mugs. I love that you have special mugs for you and O.K. when he is there! Your weekends together are special and little things like that add up to make a big difference! Not crazy at all.

  11. Hoping your upcoming weeks are a little less stressful and that all things medical get sorted out--in a good way.

As someone who used to have horribly long (driving) commutes, the only choice for my tea is a tall, stainless steel insulated container with a locking top. I can't abide lukewarm anything, so my tea needs to stay hot as possible, as long as possible. Present container is a Bodum bought at John Lewis in London a few years ago. Replaced a Starbuck stainless steel container when its cap broke and no replacement cap was available. I still have a cupboard filled with various mugs--DH uses them (and rest of family--when they used to come over). He isn't that particular about which one he uses.

    1. Thank you Mary, things will eventually get sorted out I'm sure. Every so often I guess age catches up with you.

I bet you are happy to no longer have the long commute. I would have a hard time with that on a long term basis. I was fortunate when I was working to usually work within a 30 min. drive to work. My husband, however, commuted an hour or more each way for many years. You are right, the insulated mugs are very nice to have especially on a long drive!

  12. Oh! Yes! I have my special coffee mug! Same mug...every morning. It has been patched-up, glued-up so many times, there is more glue than ceramic these days, I think! lol But I won't part with it...I refuse to part with it! :)

When I drink tea...which is not very often...this mug of mine is never used for tea...of course not! :)

I love your coffee mug, Bonnie...it is such a happy mug! :)

I hope all is going well for both you and for Tom...keep taking good care. Best wishes. :)

    1. Yes, you sure do understand what it is to have a favorite mug! I've used them patched up too when I just could not part with them. I also use different mugs for tea.

Thank you for your kindness, we will be okay, just both of us going through a rough spot with our health but it will improve in time.

  13. When I was younger, I did not care a fig which cup or mug my hot drinks came in but nowadays I also have my special cups. It must be an age thing so no - you are not crazy Bonnie! Though I am not averse to coffee I always start the day with a big mug of tea which has these words on the side: "The Big Mug"!

    1. I think as we get older we become more of a creature of habit and as such a favorite and familiar mug is more comfortable to us early in the morning. Your special "The Big Mug" may be replaced in the next year with a "Grampa" mug!

  15. I had a special little plate. I was mortified when I broke it and bought another exactly the same on ebay, but it didn't feel the same. I've got another special little plate now.

    1. I love that you have a special plate. It is much the same as a special cup, I'm sure because it probably makes you feel good to use it. It's funny that you say you bought one like it on Ebay. I did the very same thing for my husband years ago. He had a special glass he loved and one of the kids accidently broke it. I found one just like it on Ebay and orcered it for him but as you said, I don't think it was the same.

  16. I have a couple cups I like to use in the morning. My favorite is one my daughter gave me for Mother's Day that has my grandson's names on it. I haven't used it yet! I'm afraid to break it!

    1. Hi Jeanette! Welcome! I understand just what you mean about the mug with your grandson's names on it. I have one with my two grandchildren's names and I only use it occasionally for the same reason! I once had a favorite "Mom" mug that got broken and I was heartbroken. I am learning to take a picture of special mugs like that to have in case something happens to them.
