Mother's Day

This past Sunday was Mother's Day and my oldest son Chris sure did give me a wonderful weekend.  It started Saturday morning when the doorbell rang.  It was a florist delivering the most beautiful flowers from Chris and Kristi!

Sunday Chris picked me up for a special mother and son day out in Kansas City.  He has done this for the past several Mother's Days and I've come to really look forward to it.  We spent the day on The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City.  It is a popular area of the city designed after Seville, Spain which is our sister city.  There are many excellent restaurants and unique shops and you can easily spend a day just walking around.  We went to Cooper's Hawk Restaurant and Winery and enjoyed a delicious meal.  We then enjoyed walking around the area and of course we had to visit the huge three story book store there.  We finished the day off at one of the coffee shops.  More than anything I enjoyed simply being able to spend time with my son and visit and catch up on everything with him.  I would like to have gotten more pictures of the area but it was a cloudy day and not the best for taking pictures.  I did get one of a smaller fountain, Neptune although the picture is not the best.

Kansas City is known for its many fountains.

Despite it being a cloudy and cool day we really did have a great time!  I feel blessed to have two wonderful sons.  I did not see Sean, my younger son but he did call me and we had a nice, long phone conversation.  I hope everyone here had a wonderful Mother's Day!

  1. It sounds lovely, Bonnie. I'm glad your sons came through for you. I haven't celebrated it yet, son working, so there will be a day soon, I expect!

    1. Sometimes in the past we have celebrated on days other than Mother's Day and I've loved it just as much. My son stays so busy with his work that I cherish the opportunity to share a little time with him. Happy Mother's Day to you whenever you celebrate!

  2. I'm glad you had a happy, wonderful Mother's Day with your son, Bonnie. It must be lovely to feel both appreciated and much-loved. :)

My two furry rascals treated it just like any other day, even though I did drop a few hints about breakfast in bed...for me, not them!! :)

    1. Thank you Lee. I love just having a chance to spend a little time with him. I'm sure your lovely, furry rascals would love to have their breakfast in bed. I won't mention that to my cats as they are quite spoiled already. I bet your sweet ones did give you lots of love for the day!

  4. Hi Bonnie, How nice to share such a full day of activities with your son and have a chance to catch up. I am glad you had a long phone conversation with your other son, too. Did you buy anything at the book store?

    1. No, we didn't buy anything but we both enjoy the general mood and feel of bookstores. It seems like these days there are not as many left and that is sad. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to catch up with my sons.

  5. It sounds so lovely and normal - going to a restaurant, walking around shops, spending time out with family. Not (yet) possible over here.
Our Mother‘s Day is the same as yours, unlike the UK who have theirs in March. As I am at O.K.‘s at the moment, I did not see my mother, but will visit as soon as I am back home. His mother was invited for dinner at his sister‘s, followed by coffee and cake, taken in her pretty garden.

    1. We are fortunate that many things are getting closer to normal here although we still have to wear masks except when eating. I do feel safer since I have had both of my vaccinations. I hope things will improve for you in your country. If they can somehow get more vaccinations done it will help. At least that is what has helped us here to get closer to normal. I know your Mother will enjoy time with you when you do get back!

    1. Thank you Rachel, it was very nice to have a day out like this after the past year. I don't get to see my sons much so a day out with either one of them is very special.

  7. What a great day! So good to be able to spend time with your son and catch up on things in person and one-on-one. My sons and I try to do that periodically, but harder now that they don't all live near me. I know the Country Club Plaza area as I used to have many business trips to KC and usually ended up there for dinner. As you say, a lot of nice restaurants.

    1. Thank you Mary, it was a wonderful day simply to spend time with Chris. My sons each live in nearby suburban towns but I don't get to see them much due to their busy work schedules. Yes, the Plaza area is popular for visitors to the city. I hope you enjoyed your visits there.

  8. I've noticed this lovely trend. Son's honor their mothers; wives their mothers. It's a real win, win, win.

  9. Yes, it really is a beautiful trend. I enjoy the one on one with my son.

  12. You must have been a lovely mother to both Chris and Sean when they were little. Perhaps Sean could come along with you and Chris next year? Just a thought to put to Chris.

    1. Chris did think of that but Sean was unable to join us this year. I had a lovely conversation with Sean that evening and enjoyed the one on one time with Chris during the day.

    1. Hi Janie, how nice to see you here! You will find I don't post as often as some bloggers but I sure do enjoy all of my wonderful blog friends and I'm always happy to make a new friend! I just popped over to your blog and really enjoyed the very special posts from Franklin and Penelope. It was also very informative to learn about Diana Serra Cary. I know about some of the old silent film stars but did not know about her. Have a great week Janie!
