What Happened to Spring?

I’m still here!  There is certainly no danger of me posting too often.  However, I do sometimes get sidetracked by other things going on.  Maybe someday I will learn to blog more regularly!

Back to Spring.  What happened to it?  A week or two ago we had a few Spring days and I actually got some yard work done and even mowed the grass.  Our Redbud tree bloomed beautifully and I had all the windows open in the house.  Open windows always make our cats happy and me too for that matter.

Then we suddenly went back into nights below freezing and this past Tuesday we woke up to two inches of snow.  I have heard from so many friends from many different areas that have also had Spring snows this year.  My main concern is that we could go from Winter straight into Summer and miss out on those wonderful Spring days.  We’ve done that a lot here and our Summers can get really hot.  I’m not complaining though because I do love the changing of the seasons!

(Sorry for the bad picture, it was taken through the window screen.)

Tom and I have managed to stay busy indoors.  We had a ceiling fan that stopped working and was not able to be repaired.  We have always been do-it-yourselfers so we bought a new ceiling fan with a light and decided to replace it ourselves.  We first had to take the old one down and then install the new one.  Tom is still having trouble with his balance and it is unsafe for him to do much climbing, so guess who did the work?  Yep, I did most of it myself!  I did have some help and direction from Tom but I got the old one down and the new one up mostly by myself.  Tom did get the main motor of the fan attached to the ceiling because it was too heavy for me to hold over my head.  I got all the blades attached and the light kit installed.  I was kind of proud of myself!

Last weekend I went over to my youngest son’s house to help him put up some new drapes in two rooms.  Sean is a single guy and has never been that good with things like drapes, so I helped him out.  It was also nice to get to visit with him too.  I think I’ve done my share of home installation projects for a bit now!

That is what has been going on here recently.  I heard our weather man say next week our temps might get into the 80’s F so that could be Summer coming!  I hope everyone is well and happy.  Take care!

  1. Hi to Sophie and Zeus!πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜† I love cats.
Your red bud blooms are pretty and that is wild about the snow. I admire that you changed out your ceiling fan. You need lots of hands for that job! How great that you could help your son with drapes. I know you enjoyed your visit. Sending prayers and wishing you a blessed weekend.

    1. Hi Mildred, I love cats too as you can see. The ceiling fan was a bit of a challenge but I sure felt good when it was done. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!

    1. I love Redbuds and there are many that grow in the wild here. I was glad to get the ceiling fan done but I did feel good that I could do most of it myself. I hope you and Far Guy have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thanks Red. I know you take on many do it yourself projects successfully! We started out always doing things ourselves because we couldn't afford to hire anyone. Now we do them for the challenge!

  4. Been back and forth this spring here, too. From 70s to snow. But it's not that unusual for us.
Great job with the fan...and the drapes, too.
    Have a super weekend. :)

  5. Can you believe this weather!! Seems like the cold is colder after a few days of warm spring weather. Your redbuds are beautiful! Congratulations on installing a ceiling fan, by yourself! That is amazing! I have watched Dan install several and it is a job. Your two kitty cats are so pretty.

    1. You are right, this weather has been crazy. I saw in your post that you've had a lot of it too. I hope it didn't damage your beautiful flowers! I hope you and Poppy have a great weekend!

    1. I'm about to get too old for jobs like that but it did feel good to get it done. I had some help from Tom too but his balance problems keep him from doing some jobs now. Thanks for dropping by Pat. Have a good day!

  7. Well done, you! I am scared of electricity when it comes to fixing lamps and such, so I leave jobs like that to O.K. or, if he is not around and I need something done, a kind neighbour. My Dad used to do things like that for me, but he is not longer able to.
Your four-legged family members always make for sweet pictures! Give them a cuddle from me :-)

    1. I'm afraid of electricity too Meike, but luckily since this was a replacement fan it had plug in wires that were a little less scary! I did give my cats a cuddle from you and they were quite happy with the additional love. I hope you and O.K. have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Proud of you Sis! Good installation! And the weather is abnormal everywhere again this year. We started rainy season a month early here and now gone several days with no rain. Global warming is very real and affects every aspect of weather around the globe.

  9. T.S. Eliot's opening line from his poem, The Waste Land comes to mind: April is the cruelest month. Indeed. Just when we think the weather has taken a change for the better, April days disabuse us of the thought. Wild weather swings. I've spent an inordinate amount of time bringing plants from my deck in and out with the shifting weather patterns the past couple of weeks.

Congrats on getting the ceiling fan up. I did that for several in my house by myself. Not a job for weak arms! But I was younger then, so bravo, you!

    1. I wouldn't mind the weather swings so much if they didn't take our Spring away from us. We did get a few Spring days earlier. Now it looks like we may be going into summer this week.

Good for you for getting multiple ceiling fans up by yourself! I do find jobs like that much more difficult now that I'm in my late 60s but I'll do them as long as I can manage. Enjoy your Sunday!

Way to go on doing the light yourself! That is wonderful that you could get up and do it.

    1. Sophie and Zeus are a bit spoiled but they are really good cats. I had some help on the fan from Tom but he just can't stand on a ladder due to his balance.

  11. Perhaps you should get a van and have a sign-writer paint on the side "Bonnie's Home Services" with a cartoon of you holding a wrench + phone number, e-mail etc.. There's money to be made out there!

    1. Ha, I'm much too old for that! I just try to do what I can around here to save money. Take care Neil.

  12. Excellent work on the projects, Bonnie. We are going to hit the 80s this week as well after we were just in the 40s yesterday. Spring is always crazy around here.

  13. Those redbud trees certainly look like lovely, if that doesn't say spring I don't know what does. It sure sounds like you've been busy Bonnie, but congratulations on the new fan and installation (um...wow!) and so nice to read about helping your single son with drapes--as a single guy myself, boy that made me miss my own mom! Hope the season is feeling a little more traditional to you now... :^)

    1. Well at least we haven't had any more snow on the redbud tree! I sure understand missing your mom because I miss mine too. I try to help my son out without stepping on his toes, if you know what I mean!

  14. We've had weird weather in the UK too Bonnie! I was too hot at night so I took off a quilt and now I am too cold so having to put my dressing gown on the bed! You did well with your DIY projects - I don't have a head for heights. Hope you have a lovely week. :)

  15. I'm impressed with your diy skills, well done.

Yes we are having freezing cold weather here in the UK, and we still aren't allowed to eat inside cafes or restaurants. So meeting friends outside for a coffee involves wearing ski suits and thermal underwear!

    1. Eating outside in the cold somehow doesn't sound that appetizing! Winter simply doesn't want to let go this year. We are able to go in restaurants here but we have to wear a mask when not at our table. I hope you get some warmer weather soon!
