A Busier Week

For the most part things have been moving fairly slowly around here.  Last week did seem to be busier for a variety of reasons.  I finally made us some masks to wear when we buy groceries.  Since I make quilts, I have lots of fabric scraps to choose from for making masks and I wanted to make a special one for my husband, Tom.  He has always been a superhero fan having grown up on Marvel and DC comics.  Even today he never misses any of the movies about those popular characters.  So, I made him a mask from some Marvel characters fabric.

We were also busy getting my old Honda Civic cleaned up to loan to my granddaughter, Annika.  She was in a car accident recently when someone ran a stoplight and hit her and then drove off.  Luckily, she was okay although I know she had to be pretty sore as it totaled her car.  It makes me so mad that this was a hit and run accident!  I just don’t understand some people.  Annika is still working despite the pandemic and has to have a car to get to work and back home.  She was hoping to buy one and looked at several but could not find what she wanted that was also in her price range.  I have a very old Honda Civic that I had not been driving much since we usually use my husband’s Toyota.  Despite the age of the Honda it is still in good running condition.  I spent a little time getting it emptied out of my belongings and we cleaned it up inside and out for her.  She still wants to get a newer car but this will give her the time she needs to look for one and also save up a bit more money.  I was happy to know I could do something to help her out as she has had a run of bad luck recently.  My son Chris (Annika’s Dad) brought her out Sunday to pick up the car.  It was such a treat to get to spend a little time with them both as we had not seen any family since the pandemic started.  We stayed outside and followed social distancing because she has been around many people in her job.  But let me tell you, it sure was hard to not be able to give both her and my son a big hug!

We finished the week off with another trip to the grocery store.  You know I always have hated buying groceries but I swear, since this pandemic started, I now hate that job even more than before!  It was our luck that just when we came out of the store with a cart full of groceries it started pouring rain.  By the time we got home and got everything in the house every bag was soaked.

I’m glad last week is behind us now and because I’d like to end this on a happier note, I will leave you with a couple of pictures of my two sweet cats.  They each send you lots of purrs and cuddles.

  1. Your cats are so handsome!
Very good that you were able to help your granddaughter with the car, and how nice it must have been to see her and your son, even without hugging.
The rain that fell on your shopping was intentionally - it cleaned all the packaging so that you did not have to do it before storing everything in your cupboards!

    1. Thanks! My cats make any day better. I was very glad to be able to help my granddaughter, especially right now. You are right, maybe the rain helped to clean the groceries. I hope you are enjoying your vacation time!

  2. So sorry about Annika's hit-and-run accident, but glad you were able to help her with the gift of a car. That's what grandparents are for! Your kitties look happy and friendly, sweet even, which is more than I can say for some cats.

    1. Yes you are right - that is what grandparents are for! I'm not always able to help now that they are older but this was something I could do. My cats are very well mannered. I think you would like them even if you are not a cat person. Take care RWP!

  3. Home made masks are starting to be more common: far more fetching than the cheap white paper ones, and probably just as effective.

    1. Yes, these days it can be fun just to see some of the masks creative people are wearing. They are easy to clean in the washer and they say if you iron them it is almost like sterilizing them.

  4. We love super heroes here too! Love the fabric mask you made for hubby and very glad to read that your granddaughter is okay. I am the opposite though, I love ingredient shopping. Though lately, I’ve stayed home and hubby does the shopping on the way home from work. But on the whole, I enjoy shopping for ingredients. Very much. Sorry though, everything was soaked when you got home. Not fun. What is fun is that cat house that Sophie is in. Very, very cool.

    1. I always say my hubby is a 67 year old little boy! Our whole family is into the super heroes. I never did get into any kind of shopping. It could be because my early work years were in retail. It's good that you enjoy it. I think most good cooks do!

    2. Hey Bonnie! Cool. I have a retail and customer service background myself. But .. I'm a big time baker and cook so for me, ingredient shopping is a true treat. Hope your weekend is a yummy one. Cheers and boogie boogie, Ivy.

  5. I am not much of a shopper either...other than a quilt shop shopper. LOL Every now and then I will go and take my time, but mostly I want to go and get what I need and get out of there! And like you, since all this, I hate it even worse. And Roger is the opposite...he likes to go and look and look. Specially before his stroke....and sometimes now. Well, before the stay at home orders.

    Your kitties are beautiful...

    1. My husband is like Roger in that he likes to shop, or at least he did before covid. I don't think anyone likes shopping now!

  6. Losing a car to a hit and run is difficult. How nice you had a car you could lend to the cause.

  8. So glad you could help your granddaughter with a car. How horrible to have a hit and run like that!

Groceries was never a favorite trip for me, either. I think I'm glad Leah will be doing the shopping for us, but then I worry about her, of course.

Your cats are so beautiful! They are wonderful company.

Have a fabulous week, my friend! :)

    1. Thanks Jennifer, my cats are very spoiled but that's okay. It makes me feel good to be able to help a grandchild and I wasn't using that car. I kept it as a back up in case something happened to our other car. It was too old to bother selling! Thanks for stopping by.

  10. Love your husband's mask. I have become a big fan of MCU since I have an 11-year-old boy and we started watching all of the movies together a few years ago. He is looking forward to introducing his sister the Marvel universe and can't wait to watch Captain Marvel. Glad to hear that your granddaughter is OK. Take care.

  11. My oh my - what a kind grandmother you are! Some grandmothers knit scarves for their grandchildren but you gave Annika a vintage Japanese car! That is true love Bonnie.

    1. It's vintage okay as it is very old! But it runs well and she is only using it until she can find a newer car that she likes and can afford. It means a lot to me to be able to help her.

  12. You did a great job with the mask I hope your husband likes it.

Isn't hard not hugging our Grandkids? I only have one but not giving her a hug on her Birthday was awful. Also she's too young to understand why.

    1. Tom loves the mask I made him since he is such a Marvel fan. It has to be especially difficult to not be able to hug a grandchild that is too young to understand!

    1. Thank you Simone. I need to make a few more masks so we can have extras when the others are in the wash. I don't know for sure if they help but many stores here are requiring them now. My granddaughter was very grateful that I could help her out. She is still working and has to have the transportation.

  15. I'm relieved to hear your Granddaughter is okay from the hit and run accident... hopefully they catch the person responsible? The Mask Makers, God Bless you all who have the Seamstress Skill Set to Create them for those of us who would be hard pressed to follow the Pattern! *LOL* I bought ours and I Love them, mine was Created by a Crafter in Texas and The Man's by a Crafter in Cali, different Styles and fit. I may end up making Masks a Fashion Accessory and having a Wardrobe of them!

    1. They have not caught up to the person that hit my granddaughter but she did at least get a partial license plate number so we are hoping that will help. I have started seeing some very cool masks around so I'm betting that will be the next big fashion trend! Thanks for stopping by! Take care!

  16. I'm thankful your granddaughter was not hurt worse. Such a shame that someone would hit and run. What a blessing your car will be to her at this time. Your cats are beautiful! I love the mask you made for your husband - how appropriate! I hate buying groceries in the rain (or any time!!!)
